Ingredients:

  • 200 gms Split Moong Dal Dhuli
  • 200 gms Ghee
  • 200 gms Sugar (adjust accordingly)
  • 150 gms Khoya
  • 2 – 3 tblsp sliced Dry fruits (Almonds, Pista)
  • 200 gms Water

How To Make Moong Dal Halwa:

  • Wash and soak the dal for 4 – 5 hours and then strain it in a colander. Let all the water drain away.
  • Now grind it to a paste in a mixer without adding water. It is IMPORTANT to note that the dal should be grinded coarsely. This will give you the grainy crunchy texture. The mixture should not be very fine.
  • Now in a pan boil sugar and water. Let the sugar dissolve . Give one boil and take off the gas.
  • In a heavy bottom kadai heat the ghee and reduce the flame to low. Then tip in the grinded dal mixture.
  • Keep stirirng it constantly. Make sure the mixture does not stick to the bottom in any case . If required add more ghee, is the quantity of ghee is less then halwa sticks to the base. This halwa definetely requires lots of ghee. So feel free to add more ghee.
  • Once nicely done (bhuno) a wonderful aroma fills up the entire house and golden texture is there.
  • Now add the sugar syrup and while stirring continously let the water evaporate. Very soon the the halwa will get thick. Keep stirring continously.
  • Add the sliced dry fruits.
  • Cook the halwa till the halwa begins to leave the sides of the kadhai.
  • Now add the khoya and mix well and let it cook for 5 mins on low flame.
  • Dish out the halwa and garnish with sliced dry fruits.
  • Moong dal halwa tastes best when served hot.
